South Australian sanctuaries showing promising signs
Nina Wootton has just completed her Honours (4th year) research project examining the abundance, species richness and lengths of fish within a network of marine protected areas in South Australia's west coast embayments. The sanctuary zones within these embayments were only set up in October 2014 so this research provides preliminary information on their efficacy and baseline data. Baited remote underwater video (BRUVs) were used to quantify fish assemblages at a range of depths and habitats over two seasons during 2017. Check out her 2 min video for more information made by animate-science.
