February news update

We’ve had new Honours and PhD students commence and several research papers accepted in 2018. Our Honours students’ Anthony, Koster and Nikita started last week and are currently working on literature reviews and research proposals. In addition, Jackson has commenced his PhD and Nina is commencing shortly. More on their projects at a latter date.

It’s also been a good start to the year with several papers accepted. These include:

Jones et al. (2018) Capturing expert uncertainty in spatial cumulative impact assessments. Scientific Reports 8:1469 | DOI:10.1038/s41598-018-19354-6

Izzo, Reis Santos, Gillanders (2018) Otolith chemistry does not just reflect environmental conditions: a meta-analytic evaluation. Fish and Fisheries | DOI: 10.1111/faf.12264

We’ve got several more with minor revisions pending!

We’re also looking forward to the year ahead with a number of conferences coming up. Patrick, Troy, Jasmin and Bronwyn have all had their talks accepted as oral presentations for the upcoming International Otolith Symposia in Taiwan in April 2018. Chris Izzo, previously a postdoctoral researcher in our lab, is giving one of the keynotes. It’s not too late to register.

First semester commences shortly – Bronwyn is currently preparing for teaching in Zoology (2ndyear subject), Freshwater Ecology and Frontiers in Marine Biology (both 3rdyear subjects). She will also be taking another study tour to Timor Leste in July.
